Commentaire : 

The Wall est l’un des très rares albums de l’histoire du rock qui confinent à la perfection absolue.Difficile, dans ces conditions, d’imaginer en créer une version améliorée. Ce n’était pas vraiment l’objectif.
Le groupe a toutefois produit différentes versions alternatives de certaines chansons (soit en live, soit en studio). Il a par ailleurs écrit deux chansons qui font partie de The Wall mais ne figurent pas sur l’album (« What shall we do now », inexplicablement écartée de l’album original au dernier moment, et « When the tigers broke free », composée exprès pour le film). Enfin, certaines chansons ont été réinterprétées ou réorchestrées par David Gilmour et par Roger Waters pour leurs tournées solo repsectives. Je me suis dit qu’on devait pouvoir prendre le meilleur de toutes ces versions et en faire une « version ultimate ».
Il y a dix ans, j’avais déjà créé une première version de ce projet : la version 1.0. Le temps a passé. J’ai accumulé de nouvelles sources et décidé d’incorporer plus d’extraits de concerts de Water ou de Gilmour en solo.
Je me suis limité aux sources disposant d’une qualité 9/10 ou 10/10. J’ai essayé que les mixages soient le plus discrets possibles. Ce n’est pas toujours parfait, mais je suis néanmoins assez fier du résultat. Et je laisse aux volontaires la tâche de proposer leur propre version ultimate. J’attends avec impatience la 2.2 !

English (approximative) version :
The Wall is one of the few perfect albums in the history of rock.
Though the band has made noticable changes in the music between the original version, the movie version and the concerts. Some songs have been added. Some have been extended. Some have been modified. Some orchestral arrangements have also been modified.
I have tried to select the best versions from about 10 different sources to obtain what I call the « Ultimate version » of the Wall.
I have chosen only the versions with the best sound quality in order to mix parts of the same songs taken from different sources. That’s why I couldn’t used the incredible 12 minutes long version of « Another brick in the wall – part 3 » from the concert at the Los Angeles Sport Arena (February 7, 1980): I have tried to obtain a better sound but it wasn’t enough good to be mixed with the other tracks.
I am proud of the result but I am sure that other people could have made other choices… This is an in-progress work. 10 years ago I had create a first version called « Ultimate version 1.0 ». After years of hard thinking and searching, I have added different new sources and I have changed the order of some of the songs. That’s why I have called this new version « The Wall – Ultimate version 2.1 ». I am now waiting with a great curiosity for the future upgrade versions.
